Transparency and Fairness

The Reality

City councillors regularly meet with developers over new proposals; it’s a key part of the job. But some councillors have served for many years and relationships with developers can deepen.

The Challenge

Development planning processes must be transparent, fair and open to public scrutiny.

The Opportunity

Develop a clear set of guidelines to ensure no one dealing with the City gets favourable treatment:

  • Appoint a Lobbyist Registrar to maintain ta list of approved lobbyists
  • Revise Conflict of Interest policies to include former members of City council and former City staff
  • Support term limits for City council members
